What Are Dental Implants?
A dental implant is essentially a screw made of titanium or zirconia, which the human body accepts as its own. It is placed into the jawbone and functions as the root of a tooth. With additional components placed on top, it allows the planned prosthesis to adapt properly to the mouth. Since the first modern dental implants were produced in the 1960s, continuous research has been conducted, leading to constant advancements in implant technology. Today, dental implants have achieved a success rate of 96–98% and a healing period of 2–3 weeks.
In cases of a single missing tooth, the gap can be filled by placing an implant without affecting the adjacent teeth.
For multiple missing teeth, implants provide support for fixed prostheses instead of removable dentures, offering a more comfortable treatment option.
Additionally, implants can be used to improve the retention of removable dentures in fully edentulous mouths.
The treatment process for prostheses made using implants is slightly longer than previous methods because it includes the healing period for the implant to integrate with the bone. The prosthesis is placed on the implant after an appropriate healing period, depending on the location of the implant in the jawbone.
This period can range from 6 to 12 weeks. Since every implant case is different, the duration of the treatment can be determined after examination.
In areas that have been edentulous for a long time, bone insufficiency may prevent implant placement. Additionally, the proximity of the edentulous area to certain anatomical structures may require bone surgeries before or during implant surgery to create suitable bone tissue (such as sinus floor elevation in the posterior upper jaw).
Implant surgery can be performed under local anesthesia, with the duration varying depending on the number of implants to be placed. The surgery is completely painless. After the operation, with the use of antibiotics, painkillers, and antiseptic mouthwash for hygiene, the surgical site typically heals completely within one week. Bone healing around the implant usually takes 6–8 weeks. Severe pain is not expected after the surgery, and this period can be managed comfortably with proper medication. Temporary prostheses are provided during this time, so the patient does not need to remain toothless.
Although placing an implant into the jawbone is a procedure that typically takes 15–20 minutes, it is still a significant surgical intervention. Even small mistakes can prolong the treatment process or lead to complications that are difficult to reverse.
With this seriousness in mind, at Dentamar Dental Health Clinic, implant treatments are planned using a multidisciplinary approach, involving oral surgeons, prosthodontists, and periodontists, aided by 3D simulation programs, and are performed under the highest level of sterilization protocols. We also choose implant brands with a strong track record, high success rates, and proven quality.
There are many options available for dental implant materials. However, it is important to choose brands that have a long history of proven success. The better and more stable the connection between the implant material and the bone, the longer-lasting the implant will be. After the prosthesis is completed, with proper care and regular dental check-ups, it can be used for a lifetime. As with any treatment, the risks, success or failure, and treatment options for implants are individual and can only be determined after a thorough examination.
During the clinic examination, radiographic images are always required. This makes it easier to plan the implant to be used and any necessary surgeries.
Dental implants are the best option to create prostheses closest to natural teeth. Most of our patients feel as if they are using their own teeth with implant-supported prosthetic treatments.
After tooth loss, the only thing that should be done for the bone in the edentulous area is to place a suitable implant. Implants, like natural teeth, help prevent bone loss in the area where they are placed.
In the table below, you can find information about the implant brands and their characteristics used in our clinic:

Implant | Healing Time |

Bego ( Germany) | 8-12 weeks
Straumann SLA (Switzerland) | 4-6 weeks
Astra (Sweden ) | 6-8 weeks |
Before Treatment:
After deciding on implant treatment, we will request documents such as a panoramic X-ray, a report from your current dentist with their medical opinion, and if necessary, a 3D jaw tomography.
Once we receive these documents, your treatment plan will be prepared quickly, priced, and sent to you. After agreeing on the treatment plan, your appointments will be scheduled and provided to you in writing.
Treatment Process:
Implant treatments consist of two stages. In the first stage, implants are placed into the jawbone. Depending on the size of the case (number of implants and whether additional bone grafting or treatments are needed), this process takes approximately 4–7 days. After the first stage, the osseointegration process begins, during which the implants integrate with the jawbone. This period varies from 4 to 12 weeks, depending on the implant brand and type. Once osseointegration is complete, the second stage, the prosthetic treatment, begins. This stage takes approximately 7–10 days, depending on the size and type of the prosthesis.
Prosthetic Treatment:
Regarding our prosthetic treatments, such as bridges/crowns on implants or aesthetic veneers/crowns on your natural teeth, the most suitable prosthetic solution for both functional and aesthetic purposes is planned by our specialist doctor, taking into account your current oral and dental condition. The prosthesis is then carefully manufactured in our laboratory, equipped with the latest technology.
