HOW TO BECOME A JAW SURGEON?
After completing a five-year dentistry program, candidates who successfully finish a five-year Doctorate program in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery earn the title of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon.

During their doctoral education, candidates actively participate in all treatments carried out in their department and also take part in approximately one-year rotation programs in various medical fields, such as General Anesthesia, Intensive Care, ENT, and General Surgery.

JAW AND FACIAL DEFORMITIES

The development of the jaws is a complex process that continues until adolescence and is influenced by many factors. Negative factors that may arise during this process can lead to:

• Jaws developing in disharmony with each other

• Dental crowding

• Speech disorders

• Chewing, swallowing, and biting problems

• Breathing difficulties

TREATMENT

The standard method for treating jaw deformities is surgical correction of the jaws. Orthodontic treatment is necessary prior to surgery to correct dental crowding and prepare the jaws for the operation.

During the surgery, one or both jaws are repositioned to the most appropriate position from both an aesthetic and functional perspective and then fixed in place.

The presence of jaw and facial deformities can often be easily observed from facial appearance.
