What Is Digital Dentistry?

One of the technological advancements increasingly integrated into the healthcare field is digital dentistry. Developed since the 1980s, these systems have made it possible to complete dental restorations within 1–2 hours.
By using a special device placed inside the mouth, a digital impression of the teeth is taken, allowing the production of a prosthesis that best fits the patient’s oral structure.

What Are CEREC CAD/CAM Systems?

CEREC CAD/CAM systems are computer-aided design and manufacturing technologies developed specifically for dentistry and operate with three-dimensional computer support. With this system, images captured by intraoral cameras are processed using specialized software and sent to a milling unit, where aesthetic restorations are produced from porcelain blocks.

What Is the Treatment Time of the CEREC Digital System?

CAD/CAM systems are highly advantageous in terms of shortening treatment time. Procedures can be completed in a single clinical session, typically within 2–3 hours. This provides significant benefits for both the dentist and the patient by eliminating unnecessary time loss. Avoiding traditional impression methods plays a major role in reducing treatment duration. Additionally, thanks to digital impressions, patients do not experience issues such as gag reflex or nausea.

Is the CEREC Digital System Suitable for Dental Aesthetics?

Digital dentistry, where designs are created using a special camera system in a computer environment, offers significant aesthetic advantages. This is because the design can be customized in multiple dimensions. All measurements of the teeth inside the mouth are transferred to the computer, and the final design is completed by considering the patient’s facial structure and jaw shape. The risk of error is extremely low. Moreover, the fact that full-ceramic restorations produced with the CEREC system contain no metal ensures highly aesthetic and natural-looking results.

Is the CEREC Method Expensive?

Contrary to common belief, CEREC treatment costs are not excessively high compared to standard procedures. While they may be slightly more expensive than restorations made with traditional methods, this difference is justified by the near-zero margin of error, superior aesthetic outcomes, and advanced technological equipment used.

Do CEREC Crowns Cause Odor?

In this production process, which minimizes human error, digital impressions of the patient are taken first. The restorations are then designed and manufactured using specialized devices. As a result, metal-free prostheses that fit perfectly with the teeth do not cause odor.

Are Traditional Impression Methods Used?

In digital dentistry, traditional impression methods are not used. Instead, impressions are taken using intraoral micro-cameras, preventing discomfort such as gag reflex or nausea commonly experienced with conventional impression materials.
